Hola! Bienvenido a Spanish in Hackney
These pages are for all school staff to use and a place where parents and other members of the community can go to find out information about Spanish in Hackney.
Hackney is carrying out pioneering work in the teaching of Spanish across all primary and secondary schools. The Headteachers agreed to teach Spanish as the first foreign language in all schools. This is to ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of one language and to make the transfer to secondary school smoother.
This work is exciting and ground breaking.
While the national requirement is for children to learn a language at school in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, we encourage schools to start by doing songs and fun language activities with younger children.
In this space you will find links to a Scheme of Work, resources and materials for teaching Spanish. We will also keep you informed about news items and Professional Development opportunities.
